Military Tuition Assistance (TA)
Make the most of your military tuition assistance benefits. As a service member, your branch's tuition assistance program may cover up to 100% of the cost of your education at Allied American University. This means that you can get your degree without having to pay anything out-of-pocket - there are also military spouse programs that can be applied to an AAU program. Military Tuition Assistance Application Process
Army
Initial Procedures
- All TA for Active Duty Soldiers must be requested through the GoArmyEd portal. The first step is for the Soldier to obtain a username and password via the GoArmyEd public Web site: www.goarmyed.com.
- The next step is to establish the educational goal. In order to obtain TA, the Soldier must declare a specific degree/credential as an educational goal and obtain a degree map. TA will only be approved for courses that are listed on the degree map or lead to the goal. Soldiers should review their personal goals and look at information available on the GoArmyEd portal.
- We strongly recommend that Soldiers take the GoArmyEd training course, which is available on the portal.
- The Soldier should print the TA Statement of Understanding (SOU) from the GoArmyEd portal, sign it, and obtain a signature from the Unit Commander. The TA SOU should be submitted to the Soldier's Army Education Center. For assistance in identifying your Army Education Center, click the 'My Education Center' link located in the 'My Community Links' section on your homepage. If you need further assistance, call the GoArmyEd Helpdesk at 1-800-817-9990 or select 'Create a Helpdesk Case' to create a case online. The TA SOU will be uploaded into the Soldier's eFile by the counselor. The Soldier may submit the TA SOU in person at the Education Center, by email, by regular mail, or by fax.
- Soldiers must contact an Education Center counselor for validation of their chosen educational goal and activation of the Soldier's access to the TA functionality of the GoArmyEd portal.
Ongoing Procedures
- Soldiers request TA through GoArmyEd, which is accessible from any computer with Internet access.
- TA is requested on a course-by-course basis.
- GoArmyEd will notify the Soldier whether the TA is approved or rejected. If the TA request is rejected, GoArmyEd will advise the Soldier of the reason and on next steps.
- All withdrawals must take place through the GoArmyEd portal. Soldiers who receive an "F" grade will be required to repay TA. Soldiers who are unable to complete a course due to military duties must ensure that they withdraw from the course through GoArmyEd to ensure that they will not be charged.
- If the Soldier wishes to use TA to take a class with a college that does not participate in the electronic course upload, registration, invoicing, and grade submission processes of GoArmyEd, the TA requests must be made using the Reimbursement Request Process. A reimbursement request form must be completed in GoArmyEd. It will be routed to an Army Education Counselor to be manually reviewed and approved. Soldiers should allow extra time for this. If approved for TA, the Soldier will be notified by email. Soldiers must print the approved TA Reimbursement Form from GoArmyEd and enroll in the class directly with the college. The Soldier will self-pay for the class. Reimbursement for these courses will be made directly to the Soldier, rather than the college. Soldiers must ensure that the college submits grades to the Army for the class to receive TA reimbursement from the Army.
- Soldiers must submit a new, signed TA SOU annually. No further TA will be approved until an Army Education Counselor has verified the receipt of the TA SOU.

Army Reserve
Phase One
- Log onto WEBS with your Army Knowledge Online (AKO) user name and password
- Print out a Statement of Understanding (agree and continue)
- Fill out contact and school info (Allied American University); goal program and category; course start and end date; and course info
- Print out the DA 2171E form and save it on file
- Hit "Submit" button
Phase Two
Fax the following forms to your education office within two weeks of submitting the application online:
- TA application (DA form must be signed by a commander or unit admin.)
- State of Understanding signed by Soldier and commander or unit admin.
- Course breakdown from Allied American University
TA Authorization
After the education office receives the requested forms, they will email the TA Authorization to your AKO email
Army National Guard
- Log onto Minuteman website with your cac card.
- Enter contact information
- Enter School (Allied American University) Information
- Enter Course information
- Submit Application
- Check your AKO for your DA form 2171 approval
Navy
Follow these steps to complete the TA application process:
- Complete a TA Application form (NETPDTC 1560/3) and list the courses and associated fees. Check with your institution to make sure the amounts for tuition and fees you list are correct.
- Carefully read the second page of the TA Application (the Tuition Assistance Application Agreement) and complete the requested information at the bottom of the page
- Sign the TA Application - your signature on this form indicates you understand the current rules relating to Tuition Assistance funding. You must also receive command approval signature to enroll in the courses.
- Your TA Application MUST be returned to your Navy College Office for processing.
Air Force
You can apply for TA online using the Air Force Virtual Education Center. Follow these steps to complete the application process:
- Create a user name and password on the Air Force portal at www.my.af.mil/
- Select the reason for TA request
- Select the school name (Allied American University)
- Enter the term dates
- Enter the course information
- Enter the registration fees
- Verify TA information and submit request
After your TA request is approved:
- You will receive notification of approved TA form
- The approved TA form will have both the approval official's and your digitally signed signatures
- You MUST send a copy of the approved TA form Allied American University
Marines
Follow these steps to complete the application process:
- First-time students must complete a TA Orientation Class prior to using TA.
- Marines must apply for and receive written authorization for TA through the appropriate education office, prior to enrollment. (Use form NETPDTC 1560)
Coast Guard
The management of TA is centralized at the USCG Institute through a consolidated tuition assistance processing system managed by the U.S. Naval Education and Training Professional Development and Technology Center (NETPDTC) in Pensacola, Florida.
Follow these steps to complete the application process:
- The Coast Guard Institute approves the TA Application (CG-4147), inputs data into the Navy's computer database, and issues the TA Authorization form (CGI-1560)
- The applicant then takes the CGI-1560 form to the academic institution during registration
- The institution bills the Navy (NETPDTC) for payment of the government's share of tuition assistance
