Benefits, Scholarships and Job Training for Military Spouses

At Allied American University, we understand the challenges a military spouse faces. From unexpected PCS moves to long-term spouse deployments, you may feel that pursuing your college education is out of reach. Not at AAU. We provide military spouses with the flexibility and live support they need to obtain a college-level education and reinforce their family's future.

If you're a military spouse and you're ready to take the next step towards obtaining your education, than read on - getting started is easier than you think!

Step 1: Confirm Your Eligibility for Military Spouse Benefits

Military Spouse Employment Opportunities Advancement Accounts, also known as MyCAA, is a Department of Defense sponsored program that provides up to $4,000 in financial assistance to eligible military spouses for pursuing their education.

MyCAA eligibility requirements include having an active duty service member spouse in the following pay grade categories E1-E5, W1-W2 and O1-O2.

If you are eligible for a MyCAA account, your tuition assistance funds can help you obtain an Associate's degree, a university-level certificate and other programs that lead to certification/licensing. For complete information on the DoD's MyCAA program, including eligibility requirements, please visit www.militaryonesource.com.

Step 2: Create a MyCAA Education Plan

Once you open a MyCAA account, you can prepare your education plan. And this is the exciting part!  What would you like to study?

At AAU, you can pursue an Associate degree in Businss Administration, Computer Information Systems, Criminal Justice or General Studies. We also offer a variety of college-level certificate programs including Pharmacy Technician, Medical Administrative Assisting, Medical Coding and Medical Billing.

Once your career plan is approved, you can move forward with your studies and be one step closer to completing your college education and reinforcing your military family's future.

Step 3: Search for Military Spouse Jobs

Once you complete your education, you will be ready to launch your career search. Military spouse jobs are, ideally, professions that allow for flexibility, portability and/or the option to work from home. A career that offers these types of benefits will fit well with the demands and unexpected PCS moves that a military family faces.

So what are some ideal options? One field to consider is health care. In fact, the health care industry is projected to generate 3.2 million new jobs through 2018. And the good news is that this industry has some ideal options for military spouses. Why? As health care continues to grow, so will demand for qualified individuals to fill positions in a variety of health care facilities, including hospitals, physicians' offices, nursing and residential care facilities, home healthcare services and more. And health care facilities/organizations are nationwide.

AAU's online, self-paced courses can help a military spouse achieve their education goals to pursue a real career that's conducive to the military lifestyle.
