Scholarship Opportunities

A scholarship is a type of financial aid that does not require repayment. Typically, scholarships are offered for academic, artistic or athletic ability. However, there are thousands of other scholarships offered for a variety of reasons.

13.) Best Buy @ 15 Scholarship

Eligibility requirements:

* Deadline for this scholarship is late March of every year. Scholarship winners are announced mid May of every year. Best Buy @15 Scholarship Program will award 1,000 scholarships of $1,000 each to students in grades 9-12 living in the U.S or Puerto Rico who plan to enter a full-time undergraduate course of study upon high school graduation.

14.) Association on American Indian Affairs (AIIA) Displaced Homemaker Scholarship

Eligibility requirements:

* Funds in the amount of $750 per semester are disbursed directly to the college pending satisfactory progress. Funds may be used to assist with childcare, transportation and basic living expenses in addition to educational costs. Spring disbursement requires a copy of the fall semester's grades and a spring semester class schedule. This scholarship does not automatically renew. Students are eligible to apply on a yearly basis.

Eligibility requirements:

* The AARP Foundation's Women's Scholarship Program provides scholarship funds to women 40+ seeking new job skills, training, and educational opportunities to support themselves and their families. The AARP Foundation Women's Scholarship Program is available to eligible individuals with moderate to lower incomes and limited financial resources.

18.) FiSCA National Scholarship Program

* High School Seniors can apply for this scholarship between August 1st October 31st of every year. There are 250 four-year, achievement based scholarships awarded yearly. 50 students will receive an award of $20,000 and 200 students will receive awards of $10,000 for college expenses.

Each applicant may enter the promotion once every 7 days during the registration time frame. 28.) Nordstrom Scholarship 2010

Eligibility requirements:

* To apply, applicants must complete an original essay in response to one of the following statements: 1.) Imagine that you have the opportunity to travel back through time. At what point in history would you like to stop and why? 2.) Step out of your front door and tell us what you would change about what you see. 3.) Community service can be a valuable part of the college experience. If you were to devote one year of service to a volunteer project, what would it be and what would you hope to accomplish? Five 10,000 scholarships will be paid our in $2,500 over a 4 year period directly to the educational institutions.

Eligibility requirements:
  1. Three letters of recommendation, at least one of which must be from a school, community or education agency representative with a personal knowledge of the applicant's character and commitment to obtain a baccalaureate degree
  2. A personal essay of at least 500 words telling about his/her background, career and personal goals, and indicating why he/she should receive this assistance
  3. A copy of college transcript shoeing the most recent grades obtained
  4. Financial need documentation in the form of a copy of most recent income tax return of applicant or parent, a copy of school financial aid form, or loan documentation
  5. A copy of the applicant's current or most recent Migrant Education Certificate of Eligibility (COE)
