Degree Concentration in CA Real Estate Sales

Students pursuing an Associate of Science Degree in Business Administration or an Associate of Science Degree in General Studies can complement their education with a concentration in California Real Estate Sales. From property management, mortgage banking, land development, real estate counseling, urban planning, research and appraisal, California's real estate industry has grown to represent some of the most expansive opportunities in the business sector. Self-motivation and a solid education will prepare individuals to distinguish themselves in this competitive field. This California Real Estate Sales degree concentration is intended to provide a foundation of California real estate knowledge and does not qualify students to sit for the California real estate licensing exam.

RES 111: California Real Estate Principles

This course is designed to teach the basics of California real estate principles and California-specific information. It introduces the student to important concepts and terminologies, business fundamentals, and the main transaction cycle steps.

RES 121: California Real Estate Practice

Credits: 3
Prerequisite: None

This course is designed to teach the basics of California real estate practice. The course focuses on topics of contracts from the buyer and seller perspectives, qualifying prospects, filling out loan applications and agency disclosure forms, and performing a competitive market analysis.

RES 220: Real Estate Finance

Credits: 3
Prerequisite: RES101 or RES111

This course is designed to teach basic finance principles. The topics include the impact of financial markets on real estate transactions, options available to real estate buyers, and the growing role of technology in financing.

RES 240: Real Estate Appraisal

This course is designed to teach the principles and practices of appraising real estate. Students will learn about the reasons for conducting a real estate appraisal, the methods of appraisal, and the types of appraisal reports.

RES 260: Real Estate Brokerage

Prerequisite: RES101 or RES111

This course is designed to teach the basics of real estate brokerage. The student will learn about the brokerage business, analyzing market conditions, managing risk, financing a business. The course provides an overview of all aspects to starting and operating a business, and the basics in ethics and legal practices.

RES 280: Property Management

Prerequisite: None

This course is designed to teach the basics of property management. The course provides an overview of the main concepts and how they relate to property management. Students will learn about economics, property analysis, marketing, leases, forms, day-to-day operations, and managing commercial property.
